Day 48 - Khao Sok National Park

Woke up at 5am on the night train, so managed to sleep a little but not great. The train arrived at 7am into Surat Thani, we then had a1 hour public bus ride to Ratchaprapa Lake. The bus was interesting, very uncomfortable but myself and Amber still managed to sleep the whole journey.

At the lake we boarded a fast long boat to have a tour of the lake and go swimming and kayaking. The lake is amazingly beautiful, it looks similar to Ha Long Bay in parts but with gorgeous blue waters. We stopped in a remote part of the lake and was told we could win if we like, I didn't have to be told twice, I was in in seconds, the water was so clean and clear, and warm too, it was amazing. Back on the boat we headed further into the lake to a floating restaurant/accommodation where we had lunch and some went kayaking. I would love to know how much it would cost to stay there as it was a good hour boat ride into the lake so very remote location with cabins floating on the water. Back to the bus for another 1 hour journey to the national park to our accommodation. Again very uncomfortable but to the amazement of the rest of the group myself and Amber still managed to sleep the whole way.

Arrived at the accommodation at around 5pm and although the electricity is out because some trees fell down and took the power out, it's amazing. Our room is a tree house with a waterfall style shower, it's so cool. As we're in the rain forest it is absolutely tipping it down too, so as it's raining and no electricity (not sure how the girls are going to survive without wifi) there's nothing to do but all meet up in the bar and drink and play cards, so that's what we did. I think that's the first time we've all day around a table without all the girls getting their phones out, the art of conversation was found again, it was a really good night!

Without a doubt my favourite place we've stopped on this trip.

  1. Sounds wonderful. Not surprising about the phones, but missing so much interaction.
